ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION POLICY AND REVIEW OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION GOALS

Since its opening in 1914, Hotel Lapad has always actively participated in the creation of new trends. Parts of the hotel date back to the 16th century, the time of the Renaissance when the coexistence of man and nature was at its peak. Sustainability and care for the environment have kept this beautiful Renaissance pearl almost untouched until today. In these challenging times for the environment, our guiding idea, but also our duty, is to preserve this wonderful environment for future generations.

We hereby undertake to protect the environment in our daily work, basing our operations on the following key principles of environmental sustainability:

  • Comply with national and international legislation related to the environment.
  • Minimize the consumption of water, energy, paper and other resources with constant revision.
  • Reduce the amount of total waste produced and increase the rate of waste diversion by managing waste and returns that are recycled.
  • To increase the use of recyclable and reusable items, adopt and promote the use of renewable materials.
  • Give priority to the use of ecological chemical products that are not harmful to the environment.
  • Provide guests with guidance on products, services and behaviors that are environmentally friendly and desirable in the local community.
  • Initiate exemplary environmental activities within the local community.
  • Promote environmental awareness among business associates, stakeholders and suppliers through proactive communication and insistence on ethical and sustainable business policies.
  • Create a culture of advanced environmental awareness in the hotel through internal training and education programs.
  • Monitor the progress of all our forms of environmental action in comparison with the set goals.

Hotel Lapad is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Hotel Lapad is committed to reducing energy and water consumption, as well as the amount of solid waste generated by our operations.

Hotel Lapad is fighting climate change by implementing actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Hotel Lapad is committed to the above-mentioned environmental protection principles and to continuous improvement.

In 2025, we are implementing a number of new initiatives throughout our operations that will help us achieve our greenhouse gas emission target by 2030. We encourage our valued guests, staff and visitors to support us by following the reminders we have posted throughout the hotel about saving water and energy, as well as reducing waste.

By the end of the year, more than 80% of the light sources in the Hotel will be energy efficient.

Hotel Lapad takes its responsibility for environmental protection seriously and accordingly, so on 23.11.2023. we founded the "Green Team"  consisting of: Lea Prnjat, Hrvoje Brbora, Luka Travarević, Mihael Koncul and Stipe Dodig, the team aims to take the following steps to reduce environmental impact:

  • Hotel Lapad will strive to reduce its energy consumption by 2% per night by the end of 2030, thereby reducing its carbon footprint.
  • Hotel Lapad has implemented water-saving devices that should reduce water consumption by 5% by the end of 2026.
  • By the end of 2025, Hotel Lapad will strive to create a new wildflower garden on our property that is specifically designed to support bees, while educating our guests and staff about the importance of regenerating honeybee populations worldwide.

In 2024, the following goals were achieved:

  • Continued certification according to ISO standards, HACCP and Travelife.
  • Continue waste separation and reduce the amount of waste itself and consequently reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by it by -3.70% in 2024.
  • Informing employees and guests about the need to save water and energy (posters, stickers, coasters, hotel cards)
  • Continuous employee education, i.e. raising awareness about sustainable business measures.

Certain ingredients found in some sunscreen products are very harmful to marine life and reefs, even in small quantities, and even after showering in a hotel room.

Washing or swimming when using shampoos, lotions and gels containing "microbeads" can cause serious long-term damage to biodiversity. many countries have already banned them, so we ask our guests not to travel with these items.

We recommend a marine-safe alternative if your sunscreen contains any of these ingredients: oxybenzone, benzophenone-1, benzophenone-8, OD-PABA, 4 methylbenzylidene camphor, 3 benzylidene camphor, nano-titanium dioxide, nano-zinc oxide, octinoxate, octocrylene.

Hotel Lapad adheres to all policies and practices listed in Travelife Appendices A I, II and III.
